What is FORTIFIED?
FORTIFIED is a science-based building standard created by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety to strengthen homes against hurricanes, high winds, and severe storms while reducing insurance costs.
Science-Based Standards
Through rigorous testing and research, IBHS developed construction methods that significantly reduce property damage during hurricanes, high winds, and severe storms.
The program offers three levels of certification, each providing increasing protection for your home and family.
In order to achieve the FORTIFIED designation, homeowners must have their home evaluated by a certified FORTIFIED Evaluator and pass a series of tests to ensure their home meets the program's standards.
FORTIFIED Designation Levels

FORTIFIED Roof
Roof system hardening against wind and hail damage

FORTIFIED Silver
Roof plus opening protection (windows, doors, garage)

FORTIFIED Gold
